LOVE THAT MAKES US CRY
Wednesday, June 4, 2025

TODAY’S BIBLE READING
Genesis 23:1–4, 17–20

VERSE OF THE DAY
“Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.”
— Genesis 23:2

LET’S BE HONEST FOR A MINUTE
Losing someone you love hurts in a way nothing else really does. It leaves this ache — sometimes loud and sharp, other times quiet but always there. Maybe you know that feeling.

When Sarah died, Abraham — the same man who had believed God for a son, who had left everything to follow the Lord — stopped everything just to grieve. He cried. He mourned. He let himself feel it.

I find that comforting. Because even a strong man of faith like Abraham didn’t pretend everything was fine. He didn’t push past the pain or try to act “spiritual” about it. He just… cried. Because that’s what love does when it’s been touched by loss.

IF YOU’VE LOST SOMEONE YOU LOVE
Please know this:

  • You don’t have to hide your pain.
  • You don’t have to rush to “move on.”
  • You don’t have to feel guilty for still missing them — whether it’s been a day, a month, or ten years.

Jesus Himself cried when Lazarus died. Even though He knew resurrection was coming, He still felt the sadness of the moment. That tells me it’s okay for us to do the same.

A FEW THOUGHTS TO HOLD ONTO

  1. It’s okay to feel deeply. You’re not “too emotional” — you’re human.
  2. God doesn’t expect you to have it all together. He just wants to be with you in it.
  3. Grief is love with nowhere to go. And God can handle every bit of it.

LET’S PAUSE AND REFLECT

  • Who have you lost that’s still close to your heart?
  • What’s something you loved most about them?
  • What would it look like to talk to God about your grief, just like Abraham did?

A SIMPLE PRAYER
God, I miss them. And it hurts more than I know how to say. But I’m thankful that You understand. Thank You for giving me people worth loving that much — and for holding me through the pain of losing them. Help me grieve with honesty and hope. Amen.

ONE SMALL STEP FOR TODAY
If someone’s on your mind today, do something simple to remember them:

  • Look through old photos.
  • Write them a letter.
  • Talk to God about what you miss.

And if someone you know is grieving? Send them a message. You don’t have to fix it — just show up.

JUST REMEMBER
Grief isn’t something to “get over.”
It’s something you carry — and over time, by God’s grace, you learn to carry it with more peace, and less pain.
You’re not alone. And you’re not strange for still crying.
Love like that never really goes away.
