NOT BECAUSE OF BLESSINGS

TODAY’S BIBLE READING
John 6:25-35
MEMORY VERSE
“Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.’” — John 6:26
A PERSONAL WORD
Have you ever chased after something because it felt good or filled a need — only to realize it wasn’t what you truly wanted? That’s exactly what happened after Jesus fed five thousand people with just five loaves and two fish. Many followed Him, but Jesus saw right through their hearts. They weren’t truly seeking Him; they wanted the bread and blessings.
Here’s the truth we need to hold close:
We often follow Jesus for what He can give us—
- blessings,
- healing,
- success,
- comfort.
But Jesus invites us to seek Him — not just the blessings. Why? Because blessings alone don’t satisfy forever. They’re temporary. Only Jesus is the source of true, lasting life.
ASK YOURSELF
- Am I seeking Jesus because of what He gives me?
- Do I turn to Him only when I want blessings or help?
- How can I pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus — not just His gifts?
LET’S LISTEN TO JESUS TODAY:
- He wants our hearts, not just our hands.
- Faith isn’t about what we get, but who we follow.
- True satisfaction comes from knowing Him — the Bread of Life.
MY PRAYER FOR YOU
Jesus, forgive me when I chase blessings more than You. Help me to seek You first — for who You are. Teach me to love You beyond what You can give. Amen.
A SIMPLE CHALLENGE
Today, try this:
- Pause and check your heart — why do you follow Jesus?
- Write down one way to grow closer to Him this week.
- Remember, it’s about relationship, not just rewards.
TODAY’S TRUTH TO HOLD ON TO
Following Jesus is about relationship, not just blessings.
How does this feel? Would you want it even more casual or shorter for quick daily reads?
